I’m trained in EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a type of treatment that helps process distressing memories and events through bilateral stimulation such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds.
I’m also trained in Flash Technique, which shares similarities to EMDR, and works to process intense trauma memories in a minimally intrusive way.
I’ve had in depth teaching on the enneagram, which is a dynamic personality system that identifies nine distinct types, each with its own motivations, fears, and patterns of thinking and behaving. I often turn to the enneagram in session to help my clients understand more about themselves and their loved ones.
Our sessions will ideally feel warm and inviting. Most of the time I’ll be sitting criss cross applesauce in my chair. Often my clients take a minute to settle in and get comfortable after they come into my office. I want you to feel like you’re anticipated and welcomed because you are. After I get to know you and learn more about what you’ve come to therapy for, we’ll get into the work. I say “work” because that’s often what it’s called, and sometimes it will might feel like work as you share your tender experiences, but my greater hope is that being seen, heard, understood, and validated will be a strong foundation for you to reclaim a sense of charge over your life and for healing to occur.
People often believe they can think their way out of their trauma, stress, or troubles. In some instances that may be true. But other times we’ll need to recognize that our bodies are wise and our minds need agreement with our bodies for lasting transformation.
